I originate from England but have lived in South Wales, near the coast for 20 years. I love the sea and the beaches for their calming effects which allow my mind to wander. Creativity for me, is a process of contemplation. A word or an image can plant a mental seed that grows slowly but perfectly until an incoming whirlwind gathers pace. Once the chaos ascends of ideas and processes then am I ready to work on my designs.
As a mature student who is currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Surface Pattern Design & Textiles at UWTSD, I am experimenting with many new and progressive ideas to produce designs for fashion and interiors. Once I have completed my degree I will use these techniques to challenge my art process.
I am inspired by the eclectic and quirky ways of life and the world in general which grab my attention. Like a magpie I am drawn to shiny objects and materials. I use these to compliment my unique pieces of textile art and jewellery. Texture is important to me along with colour as these are the components for an emotive journey. Using a combination of embroidery, mixed media and screen printed original art as my tools, I also like to upcycle clothing with embellishment as a nod to sustainability.
I aim to continue on a journey of learning to feed my creative appetite for new processes and materials so that I can expand my practice. The road never ends.
